You Don’t Have to be Perky

Hot take: It’s ok to be grumpy in your workout. In fact, #goodvibesonly is an excellent way not to deal with your shit. Sometimes when things piss you off, or make you sad, or fill you with rage, it’s because you’re right to feel that way. Like pain, these things can be a signal that something needs to change, either personally or collectively. Often, ignoring that input entrenches the problem.

Why am I telling you this on a fitness blog? Isn’t my job to keep you happy and bouncy? Because more often than not, you can use movement to move through and past these intense emotions. You don’t have to be a perky bouncy fitness junkie. You don’t have to pretend things are great. You can let your movement practice get those emotions moving through, so you’re more clear and ready to tackle whatever it is that needs shifting. And if all that needs shifting is a sour mood, that’s ok too. You might find you actually can #leaveitonthemat.
