A new series of Pilates in Your PJs is coming this winter!

Pilates in your PJS is an un-fussy strength and mobility class open to anyone who wants to get stronger and more aligned in an efficient way - this class is inspired by my years as a Pilates coach, but also integrates aspects of neuromuscular repatterning, tricky little moves derived from circus conditioning, and some classic strength moves from my years as a personal trainer as well. It’s a little bit of everything, with an emphasis on skillful movement - the WHY of strength building, over just doing a million repetitions to break a sweat and hoping for the best. You’ll get the building blocks of movement for the long term that you can take into whatever else your body does; while also getting stronger along the way! This class is not best for absolute movement beginners, but it is great for those needing support for their movement practice or daily life regardless of body shape or whether you identify as a “Pilates person.” Put on your comfy pants, settle in to your favorite corner with your mat, and let’s get down to it.

What it is:

A 6-week session of weekly virtual classes designed to build whole-body stability and deep movement awareness, while also getting a good workout in.

Great for movement nerds or those willing to hear about the “why” of the moves.

Classes take place in eastern standard time, but recordings are available for folks who can’t make it live- and you can always reach out with questions!

What it isn’t:

A traditional “classical” Pilates format.

Heavy cardio - I adore cardio, but if you want that let’s talk virtual lessons!

A place to try to out-yoga-pants your bestie.

Winter session is coming up around the corner! Contact me to get on the list and be the first to know when it drops :)

“I feel super organized and lifted and stable now. Which I super needed.” - Janelle P., PJ Pilates student

A Bit More About the Course:
Strength doesn’t have to mean stuck, and flow doesn’t have to mean you can’t access your strength. This Pilates-inspired weekly movement class is excellent for folks with an existing movement practice who are ready to dig in to the underlying grammar & syntax of how our bodies move while also getting in a workout each week. This work is particularly helpful for hypermobile folks, movement nerds, and folks reaching for a new strength goal and needing to fill in some integration gaps. While we use the principles of Pilates strength work, I will also draw from my background in kinesiology, somatic repatterning, and functional fitness to  strengthen brain-body connection, refine postural habits, and build joint strength! Expect to work your muscles *and* your brain, challenge your coordination, and learn some new things about the deep connections of your body that you can apply to any other movement you do.

Props & Equipment: You don’t need any equipment in particular for this class. However, you will need a patch of floor to move on and a patch of wall to use as feedback. We also sometimes use props such as yoga blocks, stretch bands, or light weights - if you don’t have these things, I am a master at finding at-home options to stand in for them, so no worries! It’s not unusual to see a mixture of household objects in class ;).

While it is always  most valuable to attend in-person because I tailor each class to the folks who are there with me, I know we're all busy humans. I am excited to announce that Video recordings will be provided for 7 days after each class! So that I can also tailor to folks attending via video, I’ll also be opening up my emails for questions between classes, and having a mini Q&A 2x throughout the course (time TBA based on those who attend.)

*** This class is adaptable to movers of all levels, but I do consider it to be primarily focused toward non-beginners (though it’s fine not to have tried Pilates before!) If you’re not sure whether you’d have a nice time in this class, or you’d like to know more about what kinds of movement we’ll be doing and whether it works for your particular body,  please reach out! I’m happy to chat with you and help you decide.

A Bit About My Background and Education:

I draw from over 12 years as an aerial artist and circus instructor, and over 20 years as a professional dancer and dance teacher. I have also taught Applied Anatomy for Movement at the University Level at Metro State University of Denver, studied applied somatics including Feldenkrais, Klein Technique, and Alexander Technique for many years, and completed a multi-year in-depth mentorship with master kinesiologist Mary Ann Foster, author of “Therapeutic Kinesiology” and “Somatic Repatterning.” I have also trained in Pilates through Balanced Body University and am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. I love to combine these approaches in what many have called a “body detective” style - honing in on the precise patterns and habits that unlock ease, range of motion, and functional capacity.

This is the support work for any movement you do, from day to day tasks through complex athletic movements. You'll leave class feeling like a puddle, or a jellyfish. But a smart, connected jellyfish-puddle.

You need: a mat or a bit of floor space, cozy clothes, and sometimes a pillow.

Sign Up Here.

Movement Considerations: In this class we will spend time lying on the floor, and we will sometimes put weight on our elbows or wrists. Most exercises can be adapted to seated or lying on a couch/ other object. If you need more guidance as to whether this class is a good fit for you, don’t hesitate to reach out!

“From discovering muscles we didn’t know we had to developing sustainable movement practices, working with Mandy is the best thing we’ve done for improving our mobility and accessing the full range of our strength. A bunch of things clicked for us in a way that they never have before and we see the positive impacts in both our day-to-day lives and our recreational circus learning. As a coach, Mandy is attentive and observant. She sees (even over Zoom!) seemingly small details, like subtleties in posture, and she suggests exercises that make a big difference. When she asks us to try something and one or both of us isn’t successful, she is immediately able to adapt the activity to make it accessible. Her explanations are clear and we have learned a lot about our bodies and movement patterns; movements and skills come with more ease. Mandy personalizes her feedback to each of us (even in duo sessions) and, drawing on her vast knowledge and experience, identifies areas where each of us struggle and creates clear plans for addressing those areas. She does it all with an encouraging, inclusive attitude and we feel motivated by her approach. We feel like we are working hard, but are less or not at all sore and we are much more confident. We are consistently amazed by the progress we have made! “-Kathryn & Zoe S.
